The Long Journey & Daily Struggles

Erica* has been living with complex gynecologic pain for over seven years. Her symptoms have worsened pre-existing anxiety, depression, and obsessive tendencies, making it hard to stay productive at home or at work. Intimacy with her husband has been challenging, and the financial burden of consulting multiple specialists—many of whom don’t accept insurance and require travel—has added another layer of stress.

Over the years, she has seen seven different doctors. Some were well-meaning but lacked the experience to help with her specific issues. Others misdiagnosed her or dismissed her concerns. Many appointments required hours of travel for just a brief consultation, often leaving Erica in tears, feeling unheard and hopeless. “Every bad experience with a healthcare professional makes it harder to seek out care from someone else,” she says.

💬 Next week, we’ll share how Erica has sought hope and support—and the emotional toll this journey has taken on her life.
