Finding Answers: Erica’s Journey to Diagnosis
For those living with complex gynecologic pain, the path to proper diagnosis and treatment can feel endless. Years may pass as patients search for providers who truly understand their condition and can offer meaningful solutions. At The Aziza Project, we’re committed to helping people access the specialized care they need—and deserve. Today, we’re sharing Erica’s experience of finally receiving answers after a long journey.
Erica*’s Appointment in Tulsa
In mid-October, I had my first in person appointment with Dr. Corey Babb at the Haven Center. Dr. Babb and his staff immediately made my husband and I feel comfortable and as relaxed as possible, despite the situation being inherently nerve-racking for me. The Haven Center doesn’t feel like a normal doctor’s office. The waiting room is private, with snacks, drinks, and no other patients in the same space. The consultation room feels more like a living room, and gave my husband and I the opportunity to ask Dr. Babb questions and learn more about how the exam would go. The exam itself was comfortable, informative, and I felt extremely respected and cared for. After returning to the consultation room, Dr. Babb explained his diagnosis and treatment plan, answering all of my questions along the way.
Quickly into the exam, Dr. Babb was able to rule out my previous diagnosis of lichen planus and clearly explain why. He then did a series of evaluations which led him to identify a hypertonic pelvic floor, vaginismus, and pressure on my pudendal nerve. My treatment plan includes a trial of Valium suppositories to confirm the diagnosis, Botox injections, and pelvic floor physical therapy.
Having a diagnosis that I trust and a path forward that I believe in is an incredible feeling. As soon as we left the office, a wave of shock rushed over me that I did not expect. After years of searching for answers, it’s hard to find words that capture the feeling of actually having them.
